DIY Backyard Ice Rink - Munro Industries
Building a backyard ice rink is a great way to get outdoors and enjoy some winter fun with the whole family. It's also a fairly easy project that doesn't require a lot of expensive materials. In this blog post, we'll show you how to build your own backyard ice rink step-by-step.

1. Choose a level spot in your yard that gets good sun exposure. This will help the ice to freeze evenly.
2. Clear away any debris, stones, or sticks from the area. You don't want anything poking through your ice!
3. Place two layers of heavy-duty plastic sheeting over the cleared area. Make sure the edges are overlapping so that water can't leak out.
4. Use stakes or weights to secure the plastic sheeting in place. Make sure the sheeting is stretched tight so that there are no wrinkles or creases.
5. Fill a garden hose with water and attach it to an outdoor faucet. Slowly begin filling up the rink area with water, being careful not to overfill it. You want the water to be about 1” deep.
6. Once the rink is filled, remove the hose and let it drain for a few minutes so that any excess water can escape.
7. Place another layer of heavy-duty plastic sheeting over top of the water-filled sheeting. Again, make sure the edges are overlapping and secure it in place with stakes or weights.
8. Wait for at least 24 hours for the rink to freeze solid before skating on it! If there are any pockets of air under the surface, they could cause your ice to crack as you skate on it.
9. Once your rink is frozen solid, you can use a snow shovel or garden hose to smooth out any rough spots on the surface. Then just add some hockey nets or other goals and you're ready to start playing!
10. When you're finished skating for the day, just remove any goals or other objects from the rink area and let the surface melt back into water again. You can then cover it back up with plastic sheeting until you're ready to skate again!

Building your own backyard ice rink is a great way to get active and have some fun during wintertime! It's also not as difficult or expensive as you might think—all you need is some heavy-duty plastic sheeting, water, and a little patience while everything freezes solid. With just a few simple steps, you can build your own backyard ice rink and enjoy some winter fun with friends and family! Thanks for reading!
